It's almost time for Halloween!

This is one of my favorite times of the year. What can be more fun to dress up like your favorite movie character or see your friend dressed as a gift or a beer can?

My husband and I are huge fans of the HBO Series "A Game of Thrones", which is based on George R.R. Martin's book "A Song of Ice and Fire", so we decided to be Ser Jorah Mormont and Daenerys Targaryen!

Since I could not find anything on the market for "Khaleesi", I decided to make my own costume from scratch! That was kind of an adventure considering I didn't know how to sew...but hey, I love a challenge!

I bought a sewing machine, measuring tape and after some research on the web, I got the fabrics for the costume. Thanks for esty, ebay and amazon! I found everything I needed online (yeah!).

This is basically what I got:

Faux suede (beige and green colors)
Brown burlapp
Brown cotton for lining
Vintage coin belt
Platinum blond wig
Pennanular Brooch
Sewing threads (beige and brown)
Needles
Shoulder dragon  (no, you didn't read wrong! The shoulder dragon is my favorite part of the costume!)

I had to hand sew some parts of the top, which added a rustic finish. I still need to apply velcro to the skirt and finish the belt. Here is how my costume looks so far:

The party at Hotel Zaza was a blast! Here is my full costume:

  1. Hey, fantastic costume! Love the shoulder dragon, I wanted one to go with mine but didn't have time to look for one. I bloodied up a tennis ball to use for the horse's heart though..you can check out how my Daenerys costume turned out here: http://changingroomblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/halloween-2011.html
